2 Days to my C2C Cycle
20th May 2010
Following the momentous development weekend for the Raleigh Borneo staff which I attended on 9th May, there is now a group posting on facebook and I have uploaded a number of photographs which really give a flavour of the weekend. Thanks to Nathan and everyone involved in running the weekend, which I really enjoyed. (see earlier post).
There is now less than 2 days until I attempt the very challenging coast to coast cycle, riding from Blackpool on the west coast of England, and cycling across Lancashire and Yorkshire to arrive at the east coast resort of Scarborough. This is a distance of some 130miles, and involves traversing the Pennine range of hills (mountains!) at some stage.
Breaking the route down to bite size chunks, the really challenging stretch will be from Preston to Skipton, which involves lots of climbing. We (DC and myself) are planning to shoot straight along the A59 and hopefully reach Skipton in 5 hours.
After that it should be all downhill, until we hit the Yorkshire wolds, and we havn’t decided which route to take once east of York. We don’t relish the thought of joining in with the weekend traffic travelling along the main road from Leeds to the coast, so will probably look towards the minor roads.
My fingers and everything else are crossed for some westerly winds. It can rain, even snow, I won’t be bothered; I just don’t want a headwind!
